________________ INTRODUCTION 23 The presence of it after Infinitive can be understood as in Fefta 3579: ( 7.11 ), Fals 37: ( 72.11 ); and has its correspondence in NIA, करने लगा in Hindi and करू लागला in Marathi. But the variety of usage seen in this text needs more investigation. With Present tense (active base ): ARATH F: ( 39.2, 53.9 ), 31177377 F#; ATTIPA 77: ( 16.20 ); 371988fã ga: (6.8); già fat ( 113.1 ); (with passive base ): HRT STA: (81.7); od : ( 19.14 ); facud 37: ( 87.13). Then there are certain idiomatic usages and expressions which often have their counterparts in some of the modern Indian languages. Tai a fah (6.22.), cf. Marathi 47 Fist; tích 171 ( 71.21 ) cf. get au f&T HROT in Marathi; 71 ( 84.2 ), in the sense of HET FENT GT in Marathi; afya wafa ( 73.9 ), cf. similar expression in Marathi and Kannada; acetoft 2: ( 119.16 ), TITIS7Taft afesa: ( 128.12 ); art afiqat qa: ( 95.8 ); qoè 11 ( 104.11 ); facta ( 94.17 ); qua 48 ( 103,2 ); TH & Ta ( 21,24 ). This edition is based on a single Ms., so one cannot be always certain about the accuracy of some readings. Still the lexical material in this Kathākośa is quite rich, and a few words of interest may be noted here (D.=Deśī; Sk-Sanskrit; Pk.= Prāksta ). 31161 ( 132.22 ), a nun; cf. 37114071, 37141. 37izta: ( 78.24 ), worship, prayer ( with lamp-waving ); cf. Sk. trifa, in NIA KA. 3775174: m. ( 123. 13 ), without ailment, 375AT ( 51.20 ), strangling the neck in a noose. 58 ( 70.6), elsewhere 3118, a stone-digger; Kannada afts, one who works in a quarry.
