6. FERTILITY AND LONGEVITY OF THE JAINAS
As an indication of comparative fertility, the proportion borne by children of 0-10 years' age-group to married females of 15-40 years age-group can be examined. Such figures for different religious communities were available upto 1931 Census Report. The figures for some communities, as stated in 1931 Census Report, 30 are given in Table 19.

Even though the fertility of Jaina women was low as compared with that of Christian, Sikh and Muslim women, it did show some signs of improvement as seen from Table 2031 given below :

Similarly the proportion of persons aged 60 and over to those aged 15 to 40 is an indication of comparative longevity. Such figures32 for some communities according to 1931 Census are given in Table 21 in the ascending order of comparative longevity.
