________________ Publisher's Note I have great pleasure in publishing this research work in the publication series of B. J. Institute of Learning and Research, Ahmadabad. The Project dealing with the study of the unnoticed Jain image inscriptions of Ahmedabad was undertaken by the editors during 1989 to 1992, with the grant-in-aid sanctioned by Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi. Miss Sangita Phadia and Mss Krishna Pancholi were appointed as research assistants for this purpose. Dr. Balaji Ganorkar, the then administrative officer of the Bhāgavata Purāņa project rendered his services to prepare the report. Here about 1,000 image inscriptions from various Jain temples of the city area of Ahmadabad were surveyed and out of them about 850 inscriptions have been studied and incorporated in this publication. . The book contains Sanskrit text with critical notes in English and seven appendices related to the Tirthankaras, Sūris and Ācāryas, Gacchas, Gotras, Castes, places and the names of the donors. I hope this publication would be useful to those who are interested in the Jain Studies at large. Ahmadabad 8th March, 1997 P. C. Parikh Director, B. J.
