FOOD AND BEGGING:
The Anagäradharmāmrta325 refers to various modes of begging which were resorted to by monks who had decided to beg in that particular way.
They were the 'gomūtrikā', 'patangavīthi', 'sambūkāvarta', 'salabhamäläbhramaņākārā' and others which we have already come across in the Uttaradhyayana.
It may be noted that the details regarding the forty-six faults of begging and food, the time of taking food, its measures, the fit and the unfit donors, the way of eating in the palm of the hands, the purpose of eating, the effects of eating more than the normal quota, the nine 'vikịtis' and other items are exactly identical with those given in the Mülācāra, and hence need not be repeated here.326
REQUISITES:
The monks, being nude, had no clothes over them. The 'sangatyāga' and the 'aparigraha' are always explained by the Digambaras as embodied in the practice of nudity,327 and those who used clothes are condemned.328
Devoid of clothing, they required very few articles for personal use. These were the broom (piccha) made of peacock feathers,329 the vșsi' or the seat used by the monks, and the 'kundi' or the pot for water (comm: kamandalu).330 PENANCE AND FASTING:
The same division of penance into external (bahya) and internal (abhyantara) is to be obtained in later texts also 331 and need not be repeated.
