Jaina Kośa Literature : 151 dana Sethia, is an encyclopaedic dictionary of Jaina doctrines, planned on the model of the Sthānāngasūtra wherein the fundamental categories are grouped according to the number of their sub-divisions. Thus, consequently, the Sthānāngasutra and Samavāyārgasūtra are the main sources of this work. Besides, it utilises the matter of more than 100 prominent Jaina texts and their commentaries. It also provides the references of the authority. It contains treatment in detail in Hindi. The categories, with subdivision 1to 5 are dealt in the volume 1, those with 6 &7in vol. 2, with 8, 9, 10, in vol. 3, with 11-13 in vol. 4, 14 to 19 in 5, 20 to 30 in 6, 31to 57 in 7 and 58 to 70 in the last 8th. The volume 8 contains the alphabetical index of the categories treated in this work. This is very valuable for the systematic knowledge of Jaina doctrine. Pub. Varni, an encyclopaedic work of Jaina doctrines and cosmology, is the result of dedication and hard work of the compiler, extending over 20 years. The Kośa is a source book of topics (alphabetically arranged), drawn from a large number of Jaina texts dealing with four Anuyogas. The range of works consulted numbers about 100 important Digambar texts. The extracts from the basic sources are given, with their Hindi translation.
