There are six essentials in Jainism

ભગવાન મહાવીરના પ્રથમ ગણધર–પટ્ટશિષ્ય શ્રી ગૌતમસ્વામીએ ભગવાન મહાવીર સ્વામીને પૂછ્યું, प्र. सामाइएणं भंते । जीवे कि जणयइ ? उ. सामाइएणं सावज्जजोगविरई जणयइ । उत्त. २९-८
'Oh Lord ! what one does gain by doing Samayik ?' હે ભગવન્! સામાયિક કરવાથી જીવને શો લાભ થાય?
Lord Mahavir replies, “By Samayik the soul ceases from sinful occupations."
