Chapter 1: Background There are 23 stanzas in this introductory chapter. Here, Shrimad gives the vital factors of the Ätmasiddhi Shästra like Mänglik, its purpose, characteristics of lifeless ritualist and bare knowledgeable person, importance of Guru in spiritual pursuit, characteristics of true Guru and the guidance for an aspirant in the absence of Guru.
