It was the custom among the Jaina Samghas to send an 'Annual-letter' at the time of their holy Paryűşaņa festival, to their Chief Ācārya, conveying to him their greetings, asking for the forgiveness of their sins, recounting any meritorious deeds performed by them during the year that had ended, deeds performed by them during the year that had ended, and inviting the Guru to spend that ensuing căturmāsa or monsoon period with them. The title of 'Upādhyāya' was bestowed on Bhānucandra by Akbar, but the privilege of granting the title was vested in the head of the Jaina Church; So, Abul Fazl ordered to write to Hīravijaya Sūri to confirm and make valid this title, and the Ācārya willingly sent a letter to that effect.
