It was the custom among the Jaina Samghas to send an 'Annual-letter' at the time of their holy Paryűşaņa festival, to their Chief Ācārya, conveying to him their greetings, asking for the forgiveness of their sins, recounting any meritorious deeds performed by them during the year that had ended, deeds performed by them during the year that had ended, and inviting the Guru to spend that ensuing căturmāsa or monsoon period with them.
