________________ Jainism and Meat-Eating : 199 So - the commentator is right in taking कपोत as कूष्माण्डफल and that is the interpretation compatible with the words ga and HÛR. दुवे कवोयसरीरा = Two white pumpkin fruits. = (1) kind of a vegetable and it is used in that sense in the Sutras also i.e. (a) वत्थुलपोरगमज्जारपोइ वल्लीयपोलक्का. " 27 वत्थुलचोरगमज्जारपोइचिल्लिया Bhagavati Sūtra, Śataka 21". 2. A plant named 'Ratna Chitraka'. (Rāja Nighaṇtu). 3. A cat. 4. White pumpkin or gourd.29 5. A kind of disease. मज्जारकडए = सं० मार्जारकृत prepared or made from a vegetable named Mārjāra or treated with Mārjāra. But is found nowhere to have been used in the sense of killed in Ardha-Magadhī as interpreted by the critics. h. 1. A vegetable having leaves with four petals." 2. Fruit of Mef tree. 28 - 3. मातुलुङ्ग = Bijorā fruit soft pulp of a fruit (as aforesaid in this article). कुक्कुडमंसए = soft pulp of Bijora fruit. The reason for not adopting the first two meanings is evident as those vegetables have no medicinal use in such illness, but = Bijoră fruit pulp is used as a medicine for such a disease is therefore appropriate. Let us further see as to why he is interpreted as Bijorá (Citron). The feminine form of कुक्कुट is कुक्कुटी and मधु कुक्कुटी or मधु कुक्कुटिका is derived from कुक्कुटी. If the adjectival prefix मधु be omitted कुक्कुट, कुक्कुटी and कुक्कुटिका become synonymous. = 30 Citron.
