गोयमा ! दिया सुभा पोग्गला सुभे पोग्गलपरिणामे, राई असुभा पोग्गला કસુએ પત્નિપરિણામ તેનr || (મવડું ૧/રરૂ૭/૨૩૮) ભંતે ! શું દિવસે ઉદ્યોત અને રાત્રિ અંધકાર છે? હા, ગૌતમ! દિવસે ઉદ્યોત અને રાત્રિમાં અંધકાર છે? એ કઈ અપેક્ષાએ? ગૌતમ ! દિવસે શુભ પુદ્ગલ હોય છે અને પુદ્ગલોનું પરિણમન શુભ હોય છે. રાત્રિમાં અશુભ પુદ્ગલ હોય છે અને પુદ્ગલોનું પરિણમન અશુભ હોય છે - આ અપેક્ષાથી.” દિવસે સૂર્યકિરણોનાં સંપર્કથી પુદ્ગલોનું પરિણમન શુભ થાય છે એટલે દિવસમાં અજવાળું થાય છે. રાત્રે સૂર્યકિરણો તથા બીજી પ્રકાશક વસ્તુઓના અભાવમાં પુદ્ગલોનું પરિણમન અશુભ થઈ જાય છે. અહીં અજવાળું અને અંધકારની અનેક અપેક્ષાઓથી નિરૂપણ કરાયું છે. નરકમાં પુદ્ગલોના અશુભ પરિણમન થવાથી નિરંતર અંધકાર રહે છે. વૃત્તિકાર અનુસાર પુદ્ગલના શુભ પરિણામનું નિમિત્ત સૂર્યકિરણ આદિ પ્રકાશક વસ્તુનો અભાવ છે. दिवसे शुभा: पुद्गला भवन्ति, किमुक्तं भवति ? - शुभः पुद्गलपरिणामः

"The limits of inflammability There is a particular limit to excess air or oxygen in combustion of each kind of the gas and when this limit is surpassed the gas becomes noninflammable. Similarly there is also a particular lower limit of deficient air or oxygen required for combustion of each kind of the gas and when this limit is transgressed, the gas becomes non-inflammable. Table 3.8 illustrates both the upper and the lower limits of inflammability.
