________________ 147 a change of colour, when the white-shell will be changed into black one Similarly the enlightened Knower (who remained uninfluenced by the things enjoyed) may undergo deterioration in himself by which he may lose his nature of knowledge and assume one of nescience CHAPTER VII COMMENTARY Thus it is clear that whether the Self retains its true form as the knower or deteriorates into its apposite is entirely determined by itself Next the author explains through an illustration taken from ordinary life the difference between the operation of the karma in the case of the wrong believer and that in the case of the right believer पुरिसो जह कोवि इह वित्तिणिमित्त तु सेवए राय । तो सोवि देदि राया विविहे भोगे सुहुप्याए ॥ २२४ ॥ Puriso jaha kovi iha vittinimittam tu seva ye rayam To sovi deyi raya vivihe bhoge suhuppaye (224) (225) पुरुषो यथा कोपीह वृत्तिनिमित्त तु सेवते राजानम् । तत्सोऽपि ददाति राजा विविधान् भोगान् सुखोत्पादकान् ॥२२४॥ एमेव जीवपुरिसो कम्मराय सेवए सुहणिमित्त । तो सोवि देइ कम्मो विविहे भोए सुहुप्पाए ॥ २२५ ॥ Emeva jivapuriso kammarayam sevaye suhanimittam To sovi dehi kammovivihe bhoye suhuppaye एवमेव जीवपुरुष कर्मरज सेवते सुखनिमित्तम् । तत्तदपि ददाति कर्मराजा विविधान् सुखोत्पादकान् भोगान् ॥ २२५ ॥ जह पुण सो चि पुरिसो वित्तिणिमित्त ण सेवए राय । तो सो ण देइ राया विविहे भोए सुहुप्पाए ॥ २२६ ॥ Jaha puna so chiya puriso vittinimittam na sevaye rāyam To so na deyi raya vivihe bhoye suhuppaye (226) यथा पुन स एव पुरुषो वृत्तिनिमित्त न सेवते राजानम् । तत्सोपि न ददाति राजा विविधान् भोगान् सुखोत्पादकान् ॥ २२६ ॥ एमेव सम्मदिट्ठी विसयत्त सेवए ण कम्मरय । तो सो ण देइ कम्म विविहे भोए सुहुप्पाए ॥ २२७॥
