________________ CHAPTER VIII 10 Next the author examines the statements expressing thought relating to life, from the same two aspects जो मण्णदि जीवेमि य जीविज्जामि य परेहि सत्तेहि । सो मूढो अण्णाणी गाणी एत्तो दु विवरीदो ॥२५०॥ Jo mannadi jivemiya jivijjāmıya parehi sattehim So mudho annānī nānī ettodu vivarido (250 यो मन्यते जीवयामि च जीव्ये च परै सत्त्वै । स मूढोऽज्ञानी ज्ञान्यतस्तु विपरीत ॥२५०॥ 250 He who thinks, "I live (as caused by other beings and I cause other beings to live” is a deluded one, devoid of know ledge But one who thinks otherwise is the Knower Next the author points out how this thought is the resul of ajñāna आऊदयण जीवदि जीवो एव भणति सव्वण्हू । आउ च ण देसि तुम कह तए जीविय कय तेसि ॥२५॥ Avuudayena jīvadi jivo eyam bhanantı savvanhu Avumcha na desi tumam kahamtaye jīviyam kayam tesim (251 आयुरुदयेन जीवति जीव एव भणन्ति सर्वज्ञा । आयुश्च न ददासि त्व कथ त्वया जीवित कृत तेषाम् ॥२५॥ 251 The Omniscient Ones declare that an organic beinę lives because of the operation of (its) age-karma (Since) thoi giveth not age-karma (to living beings) how is their life causes by thee आऊदयण जीवदि जीवो एव भणति सव्वण्हू । आउ च ण दित्ति तुह कह णु ते जीविय कय तेहिं ॥२५२॥ Avu udayena jivadı jīvo evam bhanantı savvanhu Avumcha na ditti tuham kaham nu te jiviyam kayam tehim (252 आयुरुदयेन जीवति जीव एव भणन्ति सर्वज्ञा । आयुश्च न ददाति तव कथ तु ते जीवित कृत ते ॥२५२॥ 252 The Omniscient Ones declare that an organic being live: because of the operation of (Its) age-karma (Since) they do no give thee thine age-karma, how can they life be caused by them II
