If only for inducing Professor Kielborn to turn his attention to Indian epigraphy and chronology, he would be entitled to this. But he also, no doubt, exerted an influence in stimulating Indian scholars in the country itself to take an interest in these studino, for the riserntion of which they possess certain manifest advantages to which Europeans can in no wise lay claim. The number of such is increasing, and their efficiency is roaching a high standard. One is actually holding the position of Epigraphist to the Government of India. In conclusion it may be said that-whether we regard his pioneer work at the beginning, his sustained interest in a pursuit which has a growing fascination of its own, or the results obtained by his efforts in bringing to light so many valuable materials to elucidate the early history of India, especially in the western parts,-Dr. Fleet bas a claim to be beld in honourable remembrance as in the front rank of the devoted band of eminent Bombay scholars who have distinguished themselves in antiquarian researches.
