________________ referred. More recently, genetic scientists from all over the world in general and from Italy, in particular, are talking and giving demonstration of Clones a new approach of production of the life, without acknowledging the epics of Jainism where scientific aspects of this methodology have been explicitly described. The cloning technique is known in Jainism since thousands of years ago, and perhaps the initial life began through this approach only. Well, on the other day, when I was taking the stock of current status of Jainism in context to its insignificant recognition in the present scientific knowledge, I loudly thought where and when we missed the bus? I concluded it is not only a fault of international scientific community alone rather major fault comes on our shoulders. In fact, we never made honest, humble and dedicated efforts of presenting and demonstrating our basic and fundamental scientific concepts to the world community neither in the past nor in recent last few decades. This task was neither carried out by our religious scholars/intellectuals nor by saints. Moreover, in last few decades and even until now, we never planned an appropriate strategy for an extensive research on our literature in a modern way and interaction with the global scientific community. Jainism is at a very critical edge, and we all have to make the difference. I believe this task has to be governed at two levels. Firstly, by a few saints or scholars who himself have wide and extensively depth of knowledge in Jainism, and able to express it not only in Hindi and other Indian languages but also in English. Secondly, full time and dedicated involvement of a few young and other scholars/intellectuals of different scientific disciplines capable in conducting scientific research on the Jaina literatures. The first level action may help in popularizing the Jainism in general and thereby generating overall awareness in the international community. On the other hand, the second level action may help in bringing the Jainism in the main stream of scientific research and thereby opening the new vistas of interacting with international scientific community. I believe these two parallel attempts may help in the recognition of the Jainism. However, the simple question may arise why I propose these initiatives at this stage. I reply as follows - I am a space physicist but I have a strong belief on many scientific concepts of Jainism. In this context, though short of time but I am trying to understand the continuous interaction of living beings with the universe. Whether such a process of interaction is going on? If yes, at what scale of time and magnitude? In this connection I choose my research field or 98 Arhat Vacana, 15 (3), 2003 Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
