Jain poet Swayambhu, accepts almost every incident of Krishna's .childhood as depicted in Hindu Puranas, espcially in ""Harivansha" and ""Bhagwat Purana", which is evident from the 5th chapter i.e. "Sarga' of his epic poem ""Rithanemi Chariu". 30 This clearly shows the impact of Mahabharat on Jain-Krishna-Katha.
I would like to quote only one famous incident of a demon lady called 'Pootana' sent by Kamsa to kill Krishna from Mathura to Gokul. The demon lady Pootna had posion on her breasts and wanted to kill the baby-Krishna by feeding him. Here, Jain-poet Swayambhu Dev hints at the Supernatural power and Being of Krishna, when the demon lady requested Krishna to forgive her.
“वासुएउ वसुएव हो णंदणु! हरि-उविदं-गोविंद जणद्दणु! . पउमणाइ माहव महुसूयण! कंस हो तणिय विज्ज हउं पूयण!!
T54 U UW HUISHU Arf! Turqut-au-uht forarfe!!”'31 i.e. "Vasuau vasuavho nadanu, Hari-uvid-govind janaddanu
Paumnai mahav mahusuyan, Kansho toniy vijj haun pooyon.
Gaiya na aimi, Jami na marahi, thanvan veyan-pasaru nivarahi."
"O, Vasudev, son of Vasudev, Hari, Upendra, Govind, Janardana, Padmanath, Madhava, Madhusudana, I am a Vidya, sent by Kansa, don't kill me. I will not return here any more. Forgive me this time, O Lord."
This episode goes to prove that Jain Krishna Katha has an impact of Mahabharata to a great extent, though Jainism is opposed to the theory of incarnation. Mahakavi Swayambhu Dev also depicts the famous "Govardhan Leela" in which Krishna saves the local residents of Gokul from the curse of Indra, the god of rains, by holding up the large mountain named 'Govardhan' on his finger. 32
Likewise, 'Swayambhu Dev depicts "Kaliya Naga-leela" in which Krishna kills a dreaded cobra in river yamuna, named "Kaliya Naga" and thus, saves the people.13
Both Balarama and Krishna kill Kamsa at Mathura. Swayambhu Dev takes very much interest in this episode, because
