12. 57. The अपच्छिननारगन्दियसंलेहणालणाराहना is an extra vow or the last vow of life; the expression means:observance . ( झूलना, जोपणा) of the last (अपश्चिम) act of emaciation or fasts (संदेहना ) which would lead to death. The Com. says, पश्चिमवापश्चिमाः नरनं प्राणत्यागलक्षणं तदेव अन्तो नरणान्तः तत्र भवा नारणान्तिको : संलिख्यते कुशीक्रियत शरीरकपाचादि नया इति संलेखना तपोविशेषलक्षणा ; तः पदत्रयत्य कर्मधारयः, त्या जोषया सेवना, तत्या दाराधना अखण्डकाटकरणमित्यर्थः. This row also has five aticāras: -- (1) इहोगासंलप्पयोग, longing (आनंना) after this world, श्रेष्ठी त्यां जन्नान्तरेऽमात्यो वा इत्येवंरूपा प्रार्थना : (2) परलेोगानुरूपयोग, longing after the next world, देवोsहं लान्, इत्यादि प्रार्थना ; ( 3 ) जीवियासंसओग, longing after life; the Com. says, जीवितं प्रानधारणं तदाशैक्षायाः तदभिलापत्य प्रयोगः 'यदि वहुकाल्नहं जीवेयन् ' इति;अयं हितंखनादान् कश्चिदत्रमाल्यपुस्तकवाचनादिपूजादर्शनाद्वहुपि वारालोकनालोकवावाश्रवणाच्चैवं मन्येत जीवितमेव श्रेयः यतः प्रतिपानशनस्यापि यतः एवंविधा नदुद्देशेन विभूतिर्वर्तते इति: (4) नरणासंतप्पओग, longing after death if he is left uncared for; उत्त्ररूपपूजाद्यभावे नावयत्यक्षी 'यदि शीघ्रं त्रिवेय' इतिस्वरूपः ; ( 5 ) कामभोगानुप ओग, longing after enjoyment of pleasures, which he has now abandoned.
