नन्नत्थ
fre etc., except at the order of the king, the guild, the mighty, gods, elderly persons, or except when there is no other means of livelihood (fafant). The Com. explains this term as q: जीविका, तस्याः कान्तारमरण्यं तदिव कान्तारं क्षेत्रं कालो वा, निर्वाहाभाव इत्यर्थः. The passage कप्पइ मे विहरित्तए, states the posi tive duties of an upāsaka, viz,. his supplying to Jain monks the four necessities of life, such as food and drink; clothing, the blanket, begging bowl (E, Sk. 'पतद्ब्रह) and cleansing broom of wool ( पायपुंछण) ; wooden seats, planks for sleeping, bed and sheeting for bed; and medicines. All the articles to be offered to monks should be pure ( फालुअ ) and acceptable (एसणिज्ज ), i. ., not made from forbidden articles. ang, a vow or promise.
