In 1974, with the belief that education holds the key to the upliftment of the disadvantaged communities of South Africa, the Divine Life Society started African Education projects. These projects quickly gained nationwide support from the Indian community, and the Society has now completed 73 educational initiatives. The first project, the Sivananda H. P. School in Mahlabatini, near Ulundi, KwaZulu Natal was completed in 1976. and there is a current project to upgrade this school to a Technical Institute, with the addition of 10 classrooms to accommodate the growing student body. Divine Life Society of South Africa REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA Nəbi kh Manufacture of Clothing for Destitute Children Members of the Divine Life Society in Pietermaritzburg have volunteered to sew garments for destitute children in an informal settlement near our extensive Sivanamda Cultural Center at La Mercy. The garments are made from fabric remnants obtained from local factories at no cost. Volunteers prepare sandwiches daily during the school term for needy school children in the vicinity of their branch. About 3800 children receive sandwiches every day. In addition, the Tongaat branch of the Society prepares hampers for destitute families each month. An additional 500 hampers are distributed monthly to informal residents near the S. I. C. C. at La Mercy. Divine Life Society of South Africa REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA ATICC The Aids Training Information Counseling Center (ATICC) offers training in the field of HIV/AIDS/STD/TB, and teaches counseling skills to health care and community workers involved in this field.
