________________ 1999 GIFTS OF SERVICE TO THE WORLD MARCO 2000 Campaign Vision: Youth and Schools in Los Angeles, where 12 youth lose their lives due to violence every week, school communities and young people can directly and immediately benefit from the teaching of non-violence in coping with the very urgent challenges that they face in their day to day lives. Our aim is to inspire and empower the next generation to become effective agents for nonviolence in their own lives and communities by offer ing schools and community-based groups programs and resources which teach the principles and applied practice of non-violence to youth and those who serve them. The Campaign will launch with the premiere of the CNN film, Children of Peace, a work profiling five members of the Children's Peace Movement in Colombia (currently nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize). SNV-LA is inviting 800 youth from throughout LA to the West coast premiere, followed by an evening of dialogue with filmmakers and members of the Children's Peace Movement. A Season for Non-violence - LA USA Oasis of Peace in the Middle East Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam is a village in Israel established jointly by Jews and Palestinian Arabs of Israeli citizenship. In the framework of its School for Peace and children's educational structure, members of Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam are engaged in educational work for peace, equality, and understanding between the two peoples. The settlement has grown from one family to 30 over the last twenty-seven years. The School For Peace was estab lished in 1979 as Neve Shalom/ Wahat al-Salam's major outreach educational institution. The SFP activates the principles upon which the Community was founded by engaging in encounter work between Arabs and Jews. The encounters sew the seeds for conflict resolution. Since the establishment of SFP. over 25,000 Jews and Arabs have participated in a wide range of activities. NSWS also sponsors Youth and Adult Encounter Programs that bring Jews and Arabs together in three-day events, which include personal, social, and political acquaintance activities One Jewish and one Arab leader oversee small groups of participants and guide them through several experiences which culminate in a simulation game on the future relations between Jews and Arabs in Israel Neve Shalom/ahat al-Salam ISRAEL Kindness House Kindness House is an ashram, or spiritual community, which houses and operates the Human Kindness Foundation and its Prison-Ashram Project. Located in Central North Carolina, USA the kindness House hosts many visitors and volunteers for no charge. Residents and staff live in simple rooms or cabins and abide by a schedule which typically includes group practice in the early mornings and evenings, and a dynamic work day which involves house work, and administrative work for the PrisonAshram Project. Human Kindness Foundation USA Islamic Foundation for Ecology and Environmental Sciences The Islamic Foundation for Ecology and Environmental Sciences (IFEES) networks world-wide with NGO's, international organizations, academic bodies, and grass roots organizations. IFEES invites collaboration from organizations and individuals of all persuasions who are also dedicated to the maintenance of the Earth as a healthy habitat for future generations of humankind as well as other living beings.
