Since the founding of Amnesty International in 1961, members of all the world's major faiths have been deeply involved in our work. In February 1999, Amnesty created the "Interfaith Network for Human Rights" to mobilize persons and communities of faith to take action against human rights abuses, and to promote awareness among faith communities and activists of human rights violations based on religious beliefs. This network will enable Amnesty international to improve outreach through a better understanding of religious groups and to increase the cultural and religious diversity of the organization's supporters worldwide.
