Sri Lankan People's Walk for Peace Representatives from all parts of Sri Lanka will enter the Vihara Maha Devi Park after a two kilometer meditational Peace Walk starting from four locations: near the Liberty Roundabout (Kollupitiya), Maradana, Horton Place (Borella End), and Reid Avenue, Rellgious dignitaries, political leaders, representatives of peace organizations, and volunteer organizations will also be participating in the walk. The purpose of this meditational walk is to raise people's spiritual consciousness and direct their minds towards national unity and ending the terrors of violence and war. Cloak the Earth People of all faiths create prayer cloths as tangible offerings of healing for the planet. On January 1, 2000, healing rituals will be held to fly the clothprayers and encircle the earth with expressions of love. Everyone is welcome to participate in this project - churches, schools, shelters and community groups can express their hope, dreams and commitment through decorating small, two-yard, white shawis. Once completed, ties are attached to each side of the shawis to connect them together and create prayer chains, and "star-clusters" which consecrate spaces, trees, people, etc. The process of making these tangible prayers elicits dialogue and questioning: What values do we hold dear? How can we change our consciousness to become better stewards for the future? The hope is that these prayer cloths can become metaphors of love, cloaking pockets of the world that are torn and broken. Cloak the Earth USA

The World Peace Prayer Ceremony The World Peace Prayer Ceremony invites people of all faiths and nationalities to say a simple prayer for peace for each country of the world as its flag is raised. The prayer celebrates humanity's oneness through the prayer, "May Peace Prevail on Earth." This ceremony has been presented all over the world in settings of all sizes, ranging from a person's living room to the General Assembly Hall of the United Nations.
