________________ 1999 GIFTS O F SERVICE TO THE WORLD Encounter Holistic Healing Approaches for Oppressed Communities In Harlem, New York, the Riverside Church Health and Wellness Ministry offers holistic approaches in healing memories through meditation, sharing stories, and training in self-healing through energy-healing methods. They also provide holistic medical care by a nurse practitioner. Activities include: Healing of Memories with Father Michael Lapsley of Cape Town; Wellness Renewal Day for the employees of the Victims' Service Agency of New York; Forum on Strategies for Survival, Resistance and Empowerment among Oppressed Communities from Belfast to Cape Town to New York and beyond; Our Communities' Right to Holistic Care - a program focusing on Harlem and Northern Manhattan, with guest presenter Dr. James Gordon of the Center for Mind-Body Medicine at Georgetown University. Dr. Gordon has been using holistic approaches with refugees from Macedonia and has traveled globally as part of his concern to provide effective healing approaches to those who are most at risk, or in situations of oppression and violence. Riverside Church Wellness Center USA Z The River House Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati founded the River Fund in 1990 to serve people with HIV, AIDS and other life challenging illnesses. Finding that many terminal people had no place to go. The River House, an 8bed residence for the terminally ill, was founded to meet the needs of these people so that they could live and die with dignity. The River Fund will construct and operate a 40-bed Adult Congregate Living Facility, which will be a model for spiritual care-giving for the new millennium. The River Fund will expand its Florida volunteer programs dedicated to serving and educating people in care facilities, hospitals, and schools. River Fund International / Kashi Foundation USA MEETING ESSENTIAL NEEDS Jain Education International 2010_03 родинамика и Zanokhanya The Zanokhanyo course is a first stepping stone to help women out of the misery of poverty, by giving them the skills to find and keep work in private homes, restaurants, hotels, offices, or supermarkets. Zanokhanyo's vision is to see women of disadvantaged communities grow in self-esteem and confidence so that they are enabled to improve their own quality of life and that of their families. Catholic Welfare and Development REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA Giving of Self to Promote Peace, Charity and Justice Fraternite Notre Dame runs soup kitchens, food pantries, Meals on Wheels, and clothing/ furniture distribution programs. It also provides care for street children, orphans, the elderly or lonely, prisoners, and those afflicted with AIDS, leprosy and other diseases. In addition, the Fraternite performs missions to countries in crisis, such as Yugoslavia, Rumania, Rwanda, and recently, Albania and Kosovo. Fraternite Notre Dame USA SEAPUNANUSKAL RawFren The Big Issue The Big Issue Cape Town is a job creation program aimed at providing employment and social support to homeless and long-term unemployed people in and around the city. Vendors of the Big Issue newspaper earn a 60% commission from each sale. Street People REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA KORAK KAD Zavid The J. N. Bechar Home in Lenasia and Lotus Home for Children The J. N. Bechar Home in Lenasia was started in 1992 with a spontaneous gift from J. N. Bechar. Children in a Children's Home in Durban were transferred to the J.N. Bechar Home for children in Transvaal. As the premises became too small to meet the growing need, a generous family in Johannesburg donated bigger premises in Lenasia and the Lotus Home was named in 1999.
