253. During paryusaya, monks and nuns who use only their palms for their begging bowls, should not seek alms when it is raining, even if the rain be nothing more than a fine spray.

होता हो वहां श्रमणों और धमरिणयों को जाना नहीं कल्पता। कतिपय का यह मन्तव्य है कि उपायय- शय्यातर ग्रह से लगाकर परम्परा से पाते हए घरों में जहां संखडी हो वहां जाना नहीं कल्पता। २५३. वर्षावास में रहे हए करपात्री श्रमरण को करणमात्र भी स्पर्श हो इस प्रकार का वृष्टिकाय गिरता हो (वर्षा की फुहारें पड़ती हों),ऐसी दशा में (पाहारादि के लिए) जाना नहीं कल्यता है। २५४. वर्षावास में रहे हुए करपात्री श्रमरण को पिण्डपात्र-गोचरी लेकर जहां घर न हो अर्थात खुले आकाश में भोजन (गोचरी) करना नहीं कल्पता है। पाच्छादन रहित खुले स्थान में बैठकर भोजन करते समय अचानक वृष्टिकाय गिरे (वर्षा हो जावे) तो जितने भाग को खा लिया है उसे खाकर और बचे हुए। शेप खाद्य पदार्थों को लेकर, हाथ से ढक कर, उस हाथ को सीने से चिपकाकर रखे अथवा कांख (बगल) में छिपाकर रखे। ऐसा करके वह श्रमण जहां गृहस्थों । के सम्यक प्रकार से पाच्छादित घर हों, उस तरफ जाय । अथवा वृक्ष के नीचे की ओर जाय । जिस हाथ में भोजन है उस हाथ से पानी की बंदों- फुहारों आदि
254. It is also not proper during such a rain for these monks and nuns to eat their food in an uncovered spot. These monks and nuns, having accepted food as alms, should not partake of it in an open place devoid of houses. If they happen to be eating in an open place and a sudden shower of rain were to fall, then they should cover the remaining food with their palm and hide it under the chest or the arm-pit. They should then move towards well-covered houses or trees: they should do their best to shelter the food from rain-drops and sprays of falling water.
