Banerji reads asyadarpam, Majumdar abhyudaryam. The India Office plate is clear and intelligible. The illegible akshara is so read by Majumdar in the Madhäinagar plate. Banerji reads lapsanti. So read by Banerji in the Mädhäinagar plate. Majumdar reads ēkāhō, remarking that the sign for is not clear, but seems to be intended. Majumdar reads "nam vyäpy-a, Banerji na-vyäpy-a°. Vyäptyä is clear on this plate. Metre Sürdülavikridita. Mädhäinagar käraṇendur. Pärvvanendur is clear on this plate. * Madhäinagar vivudham. India Office plate clearly vidusham. Mädhäinagar vartti. Metre: Vasantatilaka. 10 The India Office plate appears to read parapară", not dharadhara as in the Mädhäinagar plate. [Obviously the intended reading is dharadhav-antahpura.-Ed.] 11 Mädhäinagar ratna-. The India Office plate shows clearly the anusvära which the metre demands. 12 Tasya is clear. Majumdar's reading tasya must be mistaken. 18 Metre Upajāti. 14 Illegible in the Mädhäinagar plate. 15 These two syllables, illegible in the Mädhäinagar plate, are fairly clear here. But a mark attached to ya suggests dya. If it is not accidental, rakshed must be read. 16 Mädhäinagar reads milad-vimbänuvachchanchalat-kri°. The India Office plate clearly has milan-ni. What follows is only partly legible, and remains unintelligible. [Reading seems to be -anuva(ba)ndha-chchhalat. -Ed.] 17 The India Office plate is more legible than the Mädhäinagar plate, but I have failed to obtain an intelligible reading. 18 Metre Sürdülavikrīḍita. 1 These two aksharas, apparently illegible in the Mädhäinagar plate, are quite clear here. Majumdar reads ǎeid. So also the Madhäinagar plate. The remainder of this pada is illegible in the Madhäinagar plate, except the last three aksharas, read as ve yasya purvvah. The India Office plate, but for one akshara, is legible. [See next note.-Ed.] The last word cannot be purvvah. 31 [Reading seems to be pratipadam-uva(pa)das-chakrirë. The idea is that the king of Kalinga accompanied by his wives often presented gifts to him (even) when the latter was young.-Ed.] 22 Illegible in the Mädhäinagar plate. 23 Illegible in the Madhainagar plate. 24 Metre Sragdhara (not Särdülavikridita, as inadvertently stated by Majumdar). 1
