Copies of these were formerly preserved in the 'Dewani Huzuri' office of the erstwhile Jaipur State. These may now be verified from the records of the Rajasthan Archives Department, Bikaner. Also, the pattas for the grant may te traced out in the family records of the Samrat. Obviously, depending upon a source secondary in nature, however, such evidences have more weight than later records. Other works that differ in dates need not be cited here till the Jaipur Pothikhana is thrown open for scholars and the original documents studied. Sawai Jai Singh was deeply interested in the study of townplanning and he had read many books on the subject. The new city built by him was planned by Vidyā Dhara, a Brāhmin from Bengal. The entire theoretical lay-out of the city was his. In his memory one street and a garden i. e. Vidya Dhara ka Rasta' and Vidya Dhara ka Bagh,' (in the Purana Ghat) still exist in Jaipur. The rise of this family of Brāhmins from Bengal is due to Rājā Mān Singh of Amber. On his return from the Bengal expedition he is said to have brought with him an idol of 'Silādevi' from there, and is even to this dav kept in Amber. With the idol of the Goddess accompanied Her hereditary worshipper Purohita Ratnagarbha Sarvabhauma Bhattācārya, a "Pascatya Vaidika Brahmana.'' Vidyā Dhara belonged to this very familyt.
