Kathavali of Bhadreswara and as such is as old as the 10th or 11th centuary A. D.. The author as well as the date of the work in verse is not known, but one thing is absolutely certain that the work and the author must have lived sometime before 1291 Vikrama era. The reason is that there is a fragmentary quotation from this work, in a palm-leaf manuscript written in 1291, Out of these two works the prose work is comparatively smaller than the other work. The matter in the prose work has been simply enlarged in the poetic composition with some addition here and there. Of the two works. the prose work seeds to be the older one and that in verse seems to have been composed in imitation of it: All the three published Praband has form part of three big works Prabhāvaka Carita, Prabandha Cintā maņi and Caturvimsati Prabandha all of which have been composed during a period of 75 years. Tbe Prabhāvaka Carita is later than the other two works. But all the same it is of greater importance than the other two. The first reason of this is that the account of Siddhasena which is taken in this work is said to have been taken
