- भीमद् विजयराजेन्द्रसूरि-स्मारक-पंथ charya, Isvarakrşņa, Asuri, Kumārila, Patanjali, Kālātīta and Bhagvad Gopēndra. If we identify Avadhūtāchārya with Advayavajra who was known also as Avadhūtipāda, he has to be regarded as a Buddhist writer. The avadhūtas were known by this name either because they tried to get the knowledge of the nadi called avadhuti or because they regarded themselves as true followers of the Dhūta discipline. Varnāśrama is of no impotrtance to the Avadhūtas who deliberately violate and flout its regulations. 30 Another philosopher known as Avadhūtāchārya is the sage, Dattātröya, for whom there is a shrine at Abu. Asuri, a great Sănkhya teacher, preceded Isvarakroņa, the writer of the sankhyasaptati 31 Kumārila is the great Mimamsă writer of the Slokavārtika. Patanjali's Yogasūtras supplied the basic material for & part of Haribhadra's works on Yoga and later on was utilised also by Hēmachandra in bis work, the Yogašāstra. Bhagvad Gopēndra and aata were another Yögins.33
Abbayadēva:--We have referred above to the Sanmatitarka of Siddhasēna Divākara. It was commented on by the "Tarkapanchanana" Abhayadēva Sūri in his great work, the Vādamahārnava.*: The book presents not only the Jain point of view but also the theories of others to show how the Jain view was superior to the others, and should like the Tattvasangraha of Santiraksita* and the Panjika of Kamalasila be regarded as an encyclopaedia of Indian Philosophy. It richly deserves
29. If Dharmottara be placed in the seventh century this would necessitate either putting Mallavādin's date after Dharmottara or regarding his commentator as a later Mallavādin.
30. See History of Bengal, Dacca Edition,
31. The popularity of this book can be gauged by the presence of copy at Jaisalmēr with the Commentary of Gaudapāda.
32. Referred to in Yogabindu, verse 200, and verse 300. The Yogadrstisam uchchay& refers to Patanjali, Bhagavaddatavādi, and Bhadanta Bhāskarabandhu, the last one of whom should have been a Buddhist writer on Yöga.
33. There have been other Abhayadēvas also. But he seems to be the one referred to in the Ganadnarasārdhagatakabrihadvrtti (Quoted in the introduction to the Apabhramsakāvyatrayi, G. 0. S., p. 20 ) and the Kharataragachchhapattavali of Jinapala.
. On p. 844 he is named Santaraksita-Editor
