________________ Authors and Subjects Studied in Rājasthān 48 in the reign of Vatsaraja Pratibára.54 The style is similar to that of tbe Naladamayantichampū of Trivikrama and the language used is Prakrit, though the writer has given a few descriptions in Apabhramsa and Paisachi also.56 The Kathā was summarised into Sanskrit by Ratnaprabha Sūri in the 13 th Century. Of the Jain poets earlier than himself Darshinyārka mentions Vimalanka, Ravişēna, 68 Dēvagupta, 57 and Bhavaviraha 5 8 Another great literary writer was Sidddhargi Sūri who completed his sfurava 1991 591 at Bhillamala in v. 962.69 It is as much a work of philosophy as of poetry and is one of the finest allegories in any language. Written in simple and easily understandable Sanskrit, because the vain people of his time has come to think slightingly of Prakrit, 60 and with a narrative as interesting as any folktale, it must have appealed not only to scholars but also to the masses who cared probably more for the story than the allegory that underlay its structure. His Nispunyaka is an unimitable character, just because it is true to life. Siddharsi's another literary creation was the Chandrakevalicharita. It was written in the G. L, 598, i, o. v. 974, i. e. twelve years after the composition of the उपमितिभवप्रपञ्चा कथा.s1 The tenth century saw the composition also of the important A pabhramsa work, the Bhavisayatta Kahā of 7991262 Slightly later than him was Mahēšvara Sūri, who wrote his rather in Prakrit." He may have written also the संयममञ्जरोकाव्य in अपभ्रंश. It is interesting to find in these books many old folk tales dressed out and presented in Jain garb. 54. See the extracts from it in the Introduction to the 393T410479 where the editor quotes a specimen of 18 dialects spoken at the time in India. 55. Author of the Padmacharita. 56.
