Its popularity among the Jains is shown by the commentaries of afary and Asadhara.132 Udbhata is represented at Jaisalmēr by two Mss. of 3.2 gifer.188 Dandins Kävyādarsa bas there a commentary, the EITTAI, the palm leaf manuscript of which was written in V. 1161.134 Vamana also, was popular enough.135 Bhāmaba, the writer of the book known after him, as HIHETETT is regarded by S. K. De as earlier than Dandin. Kävyaprakasa of Mammaţa, one of the best productions of the safar school of poetics Jaisalmēr has a number of commentaries on it.136 Earlier than the काव्यप्रकाश are the काव्यमीमांसा of राजशेखर, referred to above, and the वक्रोक्तिofaa of goals, both of them represented by means of palm leaf Mss. at Jaisalmēr,187 where we have Mss. also of Prakrit sagite (copied V. 1161 ), #ateriale, a commentary on Halayudha's farcit (copied v. 1216. and the acarfaan (copied V. 1205 )138 Hēmachandra's 5171TTIHA was composed probably about the middle of the 12th century.
How fond the Jains were of ETTs, and expert in their use can be seen from Jinapala's atat,3981aat and the commentary on the Charchari. In the latter he extols Jinavallabha, for his proficiency in 1971678.189 It was ridiculous to think bigbly of poets who knew only 7* and years bandhas. Jinavallabha was a master of Khadga, saptachakrika, Gaja dalaw and various other band has. In his poem he used Sanskrit and Sanskrit and Prakrit in equal proportions, as he wished. 140 He was good at completing verses (Herrgå), by either composing the remaining quarters or supplying the missing verbs etc.141 Jinapati
