________________ 20 J. S. Conference Herald. February, satisfy him of the high and unselfish principle of management of their sacred places of the Jains. : . We cannot finish our article without saying that we lay our implicit faith in the spontaneous promise of the Maharajah of defending our religion and of his taking Jainism to be his own religion; and we hope the Jains would also prove up to the mark as they have always been in old times, By the bye let us say that had such friendly relations existed between the Jains and the other princes whom we always bave an opportunity to come in contact with in relation to our places of worship it would have been a matter of honour to both the parties. The Jains are, beyond question, pliant, submissive, righteous, peaceful. They never go to seek after war themselves but they stand aghast at any act which meddles;profanely with their religion. They want only to see fair play. Princes would therefore do well to make friends of the Juins by defending their faith and thus earning a good name for themselves throughout India. By imitating the Gaekwar of Baroda and learn. ing a lesson from him they will soon win over the Jains to their side.
