________________ Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhana Kendra www.kobatirth.org Acharya Shri Kailassagarsuri Gyanmandir (viii) found to her great dismay anl supris3 that her feet had partially sunk into water, which could drench the boriler and hanging portion of her Sari (Oriya qora Sanskrit ara), She was astonished at this unusual incident and on returning home narrated it before her husband. At this Sambhukara sat in deep meditation to find out the cause of this strange incident. Meditation over, he told his wife that this could occur as their beloved son Vidyakara, living at Puri, had accepted gifts from the ruler of Utkala, forgetting the holy vow made before them prior to his departure from Kasi. For the atonement of the sin committed by his son, he performed the austerearerga qa' After some mouths Sambhukara expired from this world while wrapt in deep meditation in the temple of Visvanatha at Kasi. From this traditional account it is known that Sambhukara did not come back again to his native land in Uttala an:) passed the last days of his life in the holy city of Kasi, where he died. TIME OF SAMBHUKARA AND VIDYAKARA: From the verse quoted before from the Krama Dipika by Vidya kara it is known that Sambhukara was a contemporary of one Nrsimha, King of Orissa. There were four Narasi>> ha Devas in the Imperial Ganga family of Orissa who ruled between the perio] froin 1238-1414 But the anterior an:1 posterior limits for Eambhukara furnished by the above two cates, can be narrowed by the internal evidence collected from the Nityachara Paldhati, in which Vidyakara has referred to the Ketyachintamani (12), which the editor of this work has rightly taken to he work of the same name by the famous Chandesvara Thakura of Mithila. As Kstyachintarnani (13) was compiled between 1315-1330 A, D, Vidyakara who refers to this work may be placed near about 1330 A. D. So Narasimha, who was a contemporary of Sambhukara . was most likely Narasimlia who ruletover Utkala from 1278 to 1306 A. D. Raglunandana, the great Sinrti writer of Bengal, who makes a large number of quotations from the Vidyakara Pa Idhati in his works statc3 at one place in his wife korral thus "fa hennifesta faetific argot 117Attiaaaala" e.g, the saying of Marichi as quoted by Vidyakara Vajapeyi 12 प्रतएव कृत्य चिन्तामणो याज्ञवल्क्योक्त माह यमुक्त्वा नित्यविकल्पत्वादन्यत सदपि नोच्यते 87777* Nitrachura Palhati P. 177.
