The author was most probably thu son of Bharata Pattanaik who was a minister of Mikunda Deva I, Raja of Khu:da (1656-1693 A.D.) (81). Therefre the author has rightly described him fetalutat atti577 A arrifant Uhr In that case Gopinitha may definitely be placed in the 1st quarter of the 18th century. GOPINATHA VAJAPEYI: Another Smrti writer of Orissa of this perio1 is Gopinitha Vajapeyi who adorned the court of Gajapati Ramachandra Deva II (17251736), Raja of Khurda. But the name of his work is not yet known from any other source. groga n a two manuscripts of which are preserved in our collection (Dh/66 and Dh/143) was a standard Smrti work, which was recognisel as an authotity in Orissa. This is altogether different from the TIISTANEET of Halayudha, who was a minister of the King of Ganda e. g. UTATAEFATiscattataife-cthyoga-HETAE Eate as is found in the two manuscripts of this Dh/121 (B). and Dh/181.preserved in our Museum. The Pandita Sarvasva, which tal circulation in Orissa was certainly much later than that of Bengal written towards the close of the twelfth century, as it cites Madhavacharya of the 14th century. If Kalidasa montioned in this becomes identical with the famous Kalidasa Chayani, (c 1500 A. D.) it may be placed after that date. Pandita sarvasva is found quoted by Garlalhara Rajaguru and Krshna Misra, as such it was written prior to 1700 A, D. The enterior and posterior limits for this work being C 1500 A. D. and C 1700 A. D. respectively, it may tentatively be assigned to the sixteenth or seventeenth century. The contents of this work are noted in its introductory portion This work is still being use:l by the priests of Orissa.
