________________ Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhana Kendra www.kobatirth.org Acharya Shri Kailassagarsuri Gyanmandir (vi) पूर्वः सर्वसुपर्वनायकगुरुस्पद्घि समृद्धिरसापृष्ठस्याखिल शास्त्रतत्स्वनिगमचानकवारानिधिः / जात: शम्भुकराभिधः कविवरो विद्याकरस्तत्सुताः सम्भूताः कवितालतोन्नतिकराः वर्षाः प्रकर्षाम्धिताः / तद्भव्यस्य कुले सुधांशु विमले रत्नाकरे धीमतां गोपीनाथक एष पण्डित-धरोहीरांकुरो वर्तते / जात जन्म ममेति तत्र सहसा नैषा विधत्ते मुदं विद्या हुद्यतराभ्यसंसदि परा गोत्राधिकः पूज्यते / 101 According to traditional account Sambhukara was held in high esteem in his days, fo: his vast learning, scholarship and saintly characher. The then ruler of Orissa who had great admiration for the accomplishments and virtues of this saintlike scholar desired to make him the दानाध्यक्ष of one of the 'Brahmanasasanas, which he was foundirg. But Sambhnkara refused to comply with the request of the king saying : राजप्रतिग्रहो घोरो मचावादी विषोपमः पुत्रमांसं वरं भोक्तुं नतु राजपरिग्रहः। By his refusal, he incurred the displeasure of the king of Orissa and consequently he had to leave his hearth and homs with his wife Latyavati and son Vidyakara and settled at Kasi for the rest of his life. This traditional account about Sambhukara is.suprorted by a verse from the unpublished work of Vidyakara named 'Kramadipiki' which has been quoted by the Editor of the Nityach ira Paddhati e. g. नानाशासनकृत् नृपालपरमात् श्रीमन्नृसिंहाभिधानैच्छच्छासनक स्वधर्मनिरतो देश जही तेन सः / काशी प्राप तत: स्वसू नुसुधिय विद्याकरं सानुज स्वेषा मुद्घहनार्थ मुस्कलभुत्र चायातुमाविष्टवान् / / This verso status that Sa:n'sh ikara decline l ti rupeve the grant of a Bhahmana village (ssana.) from Nrsimha, king of Orissa anl for that reas in left this State and settled at Kii. After some years he permitted his learned son Vidyakara anl his younger brother to return to Utkala for getting themselves married. (10) .
