________________ Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhana Kendra www.kobatirth.org Acharya Shri Kailassagarsuri Gyanmandir (xx) only three namely miatfararpfo, atfaraalain, and atfacequat can safely be placed under the category of Dharmatastra. But no manuscripts of these three works have so far been discovered. We have got an incomplete manuscript of Hariharachaturasiga in our collection Dh/103(B). The small work on Dharmasastra called 'pifafarata for the anthorship of which is attributed to Cajapati Purushottama Deva of Orissa (1466-1497) was most probably compiled by Godavara which will be discussed in its due place. But most popular work of Godavara, which is still being used all over Orissa is " Erzsa agafa' or CTITEITsa EFIT Tafa' a treatise dealing on the antumnal festival of Goddess Durga. There are two manuscripts of this unpublishel work in our Museum collection. This work which begins with a hymn to. Durga was written with a view to rectify the defects that ha:l crept into the procedure of worship of this Goddess before his days e. g. farfe PTSAT Farafa गोदावरोऽर्पयति पादतले शिवाया:' Godavara like his forefathers was at first a devotee of Vishnu but with the arlsanca nf age ha ha leaninga towar is giktism as manifested in the last verse of his gitar 777F an] the situar the last verse of शारदाशरदर्चिन पद्धति: which breathe the spirit of dedication of the author at the feet of Durga. This change of devotion of Godavara might be due to the revival of Sakta faith in Orissa, which is described in glowing terms in the works of the great Oriya poet Sarala Dasa, who flourished during the reign of Gajapati Kapilesvara Deva (1435-1466 A. D.) Gajapati Purushottama Deva was also a devotee of Durga and is said to have written a work on qafqat called Durgotsava. nis copperplata grant to Potesvara Bhatta dated 1471 A, D, begins with salutation to Jaya Durgi xit stand : (46). The steadily increasing popularity of the worship of Durga in Orissa from the beginning of the fifteenth century might have prompted the anthor to write this work. . Godavara could quote from 47 works in his 'Tofaaraior whereas he refers only to eight works in his cary a Tefa from 14631 B. O. R. Society Vol. IV p. 333. For Private and Personal Use Only
