________________ Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhana Kendra www.kobatirth.org Acharya Shri Kailassagarsuri Gyanmandir (vii) This fact of their staying at Kasi is further corroborated by the third introductory verse of the first part of the Nityachara Paddhati by Vidyakara Vajapeyi (11) आहता यः क्रतूनामयुत भृति भृतां त्रिंशतां सत्यवत्याः पुत्रो विद्याकरो भूत् सकलगुणिगणै रीड यते कृष्णवद् य | त्रिंशद्वर्षः स काश्यां कृतवसतिरभूत् धर्मशास्त्रस्य कर्ता पद्धत्याख्यस्य खण्डं प्रथममिह बलोऽलीलिखत्तस्य काणिः || This verse clearly states that Vidyakara, the son of Satyavati lived at Kasi with his father for thirty years, and wrote his Nityachara Paddhati there. In the next verse quoted below : यदा यदा हि धर्मस्येत्यङ्गीकृति वशीकृतः मत्तातपादरूपेण जातो यस्त हरि भजे / तातपादपदाम्भोज नन्धा वाजसनेयिनाम् नित्याह्निक कृत्यानि लिख्यन्ते तत् प्रसादतः / Vidyakara states that his father Sambhukara, like the incarnation of Hari was born at a time when there was decline of religion and he wrote this notable work through the blessing of his father. The traditional account about the last part of the life of Sam"hukara runs as follows: Satyavati, wife of Sambhukara was a learned, chaste and devoted lady and was well-versed in the preferuara By means of the supernatural powers obtained by it, she could easily walk on water and used to bring daily lotus, lily and other acquatio flowers for offering them at the time of worship of her house-Lold deity Sri Krshna. Aftor some years Vidyakara having left his old parents at Kasi for ever, came to Puri, to get himself married and live in his native place. On hearing the news of his arrival at Puri the King of Orissa was overjoyed anl received him with great pomp and respect. He was so much over-whelme.l with the hospitality and devotion shown to him by the King during his stay at Puri, that he forgot the solemn vow*which he.ha 1 ma le before his parents and began to receive valuabl presents from his royal patrin.
