grown. Even the national language Hindi owes its origin to Prākṣta and Apabhraíśa. Most of the literary tendencies in Hindi literature flow from the glorious tradition of Prāksta and Apabhraṁsa language. Thus the relation between PräkstaApabhraíba and Hindi is very intimate. In consequence, the proper understanding of Prāksta and Apabhraṁsa language and literature is indispensible for comprehending the development of Hindi literature rightly and adequately.
Recognising the importance of Prákyta and Apabhraíśa language in the cultural history of India, the Managing Committee of Digambara Jaina Atiśaya Kșetra, Śri Mahaviraji established Apabhraíśa Sahitya Academy in 1988, which runs correspondence courses for teaching Prāksta and Apabhraṁsa languages. The Academy has published books for the implementation of these courses. Such books as the 'Apabhraíśa Grammar and Composition', (2005)‘Prakrta Grammar and Composition', (2006) Prakrta Exercise book' (2006), “Apabhraíśa Exercise book' (2006) and "Prāksta Prose and Verse' Part-1 (2008), 'Advanced Prakrta Grammar' Part-I (2009) and 'Advanced PrakrtaApabhraíśa Grammar' Part-Il” (2010) have been published for those desirous of learning Prāksta and Apabhraíśa language through English medium. For the purpose of teaching Prákyta and Apabhraíía, our new publication, 'Advanced Apabhraíśa Grammar' Part-I will facilitate the learning of Prākṣta-Apabhraṁsa to the students of the English language.
