________________ PREFACE เว About Viracandra and S'ubhadeva no additional information is available. About Nagsena, the Dikṣāguru, he has ruled out other teachers of that name known to us, and he suggests that the corrupt reading Noyaguru stands for Nagaguru in one of the Gurvavalis of the Kastha Samgha, Nanditaṭa Gaccha. (See Intro. p. 15, 49 f) As kāmasena has not mentioned his Samgaha or Gaccha, this proposed identity also is a matter of probability. The Introduction is more than exhaustive, and it contains otherwise useful details even to show that they are not relevant to the point at issue. They would, however, be useful to other workers in kindered fields of study. In course of his discussions, Pt. Jugalkishore has reached or assumed certain conclusions which merit special attention, 1) Nemicandra-Ganı, - Muni or Siddhantadeva and Nemicandra Siddhanta-Cakravarti are two distinct individuals The former is the author of the Dravyasamgraha and the latter, of the Gommatasara; and these two works, of different authorship, show some difference in doctrinal enumeration It is a matter of futher investigation whether the evidence adduced justifies the conclusion arrived at. One fact may be noted here that one Padmanandı 1s called both Siddhantadeva and Siddhantacakravarti in an inscription (E C, VIII, Sorab, No. 262) 1) Brahmadeva, the author of the Sanskrit commentary on the (Brhat) Dravyasamgraha is put as a contemporary of the Paramāra ruler Bhojadeva, Mhamandales vara Sripala, the banker Soma & Nemicandra Siddhantdeva, the author of the Dravyasamgraha. in)
