An organ is a particular kind of active gans—the ten external organs, agent, and nothing can be an 'active agent' Manas, Ahaikāra unless it has a function ; hence the author and Buddhi. Similarly the object 'to be sustained by the three internal organs through their functions in the shape of the Vital Airs' etc., is the body, which is fivefold, being an aggregate of the five elementary substances; of these the Earth being an aggregate of sound, touch, colour, taste and odour.
