सिया and असिया
TWO PRAKRIT FORMS AND
PISCHEL ON THEM*

While preparing the word-index cards of the Acārānga Śrutaskandha I, I came across two Prakrit forms. viz. सिया ( सिता ) and असिया ( असिता ) and looking for their meanings I was surprised to find that their meanings in Sanskrit and Hindi translations were in agreement but Pischel differs from their meaning given in Hindi translation and Sanskrit paraphrase or translation of Prakrit text.
The concerned Sanskrit and Hindi translation are as follows:
I संति पाणा पुढो सिता '
(a) Sanskrit paraphrase according to Pūjya Šīlāṁkācārya is as fo lows:
