Sanskrit Bhasha Pradeep. We have the pleasure to acknowledge receipt of the advance-copy of the above work sent to us for our opinion by its another Mr. Thakordas Jamnadas Panji of 118 Dadyseth Agiary Street, Bombay, and are glad to say that, as a work on Sanskrit Grammar, it is of primary importance in the Gujarati Language and reflects great credit on the author for the methodical treatment and extreme simplification of the most intricate rules of Panini's Grammar which are conspicuous on the very face.
..The Pradeep seems to be the outcome of long, deep, and careful study and patient work deserving of good recognition. It will prove very useful to all tht Gujarati-knowing public learning or desiring to learn Sanskrit in schools and Colleges or by private study, and easily acquire sound and sufficient knowledge in a short time. It will be an ornament to libraries and can well be selected for prizes.
It is desirable that the study of sanskrit be introduced in the Gujarati Schools with the help of this Pradeep and books of prose and poetry so as to enable the Gujarati students to acquire a good knowledge of Gujarati.
We would also like to say here that if Sanskrit be taught from the very beginning by a book of Grammar and books of prose and poetry like other languages, it would in a short course of time improve the discouraging result shown by the Bombay University, where only 11 out of 88 Gujarati students have passed with Sanskrit as a special subject in the M. A. Examination in the course of the last 45 years, and that, if the Pradeep had been in English instead of Gujarati, it would have been very useful all over India and also on the continents.
