The answer is given below. पडिकमणं पडिसरणं परिहारो धारणा णियत्ती य । जिंदा गाहा सोही अट्टविहो होइ विसकुंभो ॥३०६।। padikamanam padisaranaṁ parihāro dhāranā niyatti ya ninda garuha sohi atthaviho hoi visakuinbho (306) प्रतिक्रमणं प्रतिसरणं परिहारो धारणा निवृत्तिश्च । निन्दा गर्दा शुद्धिरष्टविधो भवति विषकुम्भः ॥३०६॥ 306. Pratikramana (repentence for past misconduct), Pratisaranam (pursuit of the good), parihara (rejecting the evil), dharana (concentration) nivritti (abstinence from attachment to external objects) ninda (self-censure), garha (confessing before the master) and suddhi (purification by expiation), these eight kinds constitute the pot of poison. अपडिक्कमणं अपडिसरणं अपरिहारो अधारणा चेव । मणियत्ती य अणिंदा अगरुहासोही अमयकुंभो ॥३०७॥ apadikkamaņam apadisaraṇam a pariharo adhāranā ceva aņiyattī ya animdā agaruhāsohi amayakurabho (307) अप्रतिक्रमणमप्रतिसरणमपरिहारोऽधारणा चैव । अनिवृत्तिश्चानिन्दागर्दाशुद्धिरमृतकुम्भः ॥३०७॥ 307. Non-repentance for past misconduct, non-pursuit of the good, non-rejecting the evil, non-concentration, nonobstinence from attachment to external objects, non-selfcensure, nan-confessing before the master, and non-parification by expiation, these eight kinds constitute the pot of nectar. COMMENTARY These two gāthās by their paradoxical statement, will be a shock from the ordinary point of view. In the case of an empirical Self, the uncontrolled rush of emotions must be kept under restraint.
