________________ This present volume contains 4th and 5th Ahnikas. In the 4th Āhnika Jayanta refutes Mimāṁsaka's doctrine of impersonal nature (apauruşeyatva) of the Vedas. He also discusses about relation between words and their meanings. It is important to note that in this Ahnika Jayanta defends authoritativeness of Atharvaveda and proves the supre. macy of it among the four Vedas, with remarkable clarity. He also defends the authoritativeness of all kinds of Agamas i. e. Bauddha, Jaina, Saiv? and so on. The fifth Ahnika deals with Jāti, Āksti, padārtha, väkyärtha and so on, which are very important from the point of view of linguistics. It is a well-known fact that translation of any Sanskrit philosophi. cal text into regional language is indeed very difficult task. But our present translator, Dr. N. J. Shah has achieved remarkable success in this direction. Dr. Shah tried to maintain original spirit at all cost. L. D. Institute feels great pleasure in bringing out this edition. We hope this might be of help to students and scholars of Gujarat who are interested in Indian Philosophy. L. D. Institute of Indology Y. S.
