________________ 308 EPIGRAPHIA INDICA. [Vot. XI., In our inscription, Sohita is styled lord of Dhārā. Sohita's time is after V.S. 10391 when Muñja was ruling over Dhara. It is possible that he defeated Muñja and became, for some time, lord of that city or country. This supposition is confirmed by the fact that Sohita's son Balirāja, routed the army of Muñjarāja. The Mahāraja Jindarāja mentioned in line 26 is the same as Jēsaladēva of verse 10 above. We may also note that the grant, the renewal of which is recorded in this inscription, is stated to have been originally made by Mahārāja fri-Jājuka in the beginning of the Kali age. Of the localities mentioned in our inscription, all of them except 5 have been identified :Gumdakūrchcha-is the modern Gündoch, 5 kos south of Pali (called Mārwär-Páli), the principal town of the district of the same name and a railway station on the Jodhpur Bikaner Railway. It is a Jāgir village held by Thakur Gopal Singh, son of Ranjit Singh, of the Udávat olan of Rathore, Vēra-Bēd (now desolate) 1 kos east of Gūndoch. Khavada-Khod, 4 kos south of Gündoch, Gugi-Gögāvās (now deserted). Chadara padra-Chāñchödi, 7 kos south. Milua-Mālola (now uninhabited), 1 kos sonth. Ākandhapadra-Kāndā, 1 kos west of Gündoch, Godaiņi-Gurdāi, 3 kos west. raduha-traya-are the 3 Nádis (or reservoirs of water) called Düli, Bhandläi, and Ghānēvara, 1 kos (west). Sehatunga-Kaliyotim ka and Badi Bhikara are the names of 2 small hills and a way leading to Bēd passes between the two. Ghodiys-Bachūji-ro-Gurho, 1 kos east of Gündoch. raduha-is 'the Nadi called Sånvaliyo, 3 kos east. Arachandra-now desolate; but there is still a temple of Siva in the desert, kos south of Gündoch. Nahara-now called Bāmanān-ro-Noro. It lies in the Jalor District and is situated at a distance of 11 kos to the west of Gündoch. TEXT. The annual rental of all these villages is estimated as R7,000 per annum by the State for the purposes of levying State taxes, etc. The majority of the population consists of two different castes of Bribmaņas, vis. Gurjar-Gaudas and Sankhavala. The former claim the village to have teen granted 19 their ancestor named Gangeya (8 corruption of Govinds of our inscription). The kürcha Grus still grows here in abundance fact which leaves not even a shadow of doubt as to its being the same village. . From the original plates, • Expressed by a symbol, • Read mo.
