________________ All in Good Faith Human Dignity A poor person's mouth is God's treasure chest. (A Sikh saying) He who knows doubts (understands the instability] knows life. He who does not know doubts (does not understand this instability) does not know life. The wise ones are those who maintain stability of mind, follow the path of non-violence and truth. (Acharanga Sutra) Have We not opened thy heart, and lifted from thee the burden that had weighed so heavily on thy back? and raised thee high in dignity? (Holy Qur'an) Even as a mother protects with her life her child, her only child, so with a boundless heart should one cherish all living beings. (Sutta-Nipata) Our conscience goads us daily at our fellows' poverty; Injustice, war and cruelty are there for all to see. Where lies the driving motive that will make all humans free? In our world where the Spirit prompts. We would hand in hand with others march in concert with the throng Out of every creed and nation working for a planet strong In the century that beckons - Oh! Beat now the starting gong! To the sound that the Spirit prompts. (Frank Whaling) The truthful person, though of small possessions and poor should be loved and respected, but followers of untruth, though of great possessions and power should be despised and regarded as wicked. (Yasna) The true believers are those whose hearts are filled with awe at the mention of Allah, and whose faith grows stronger as they listen to His revelations. They are those who put their trust in the Lord, pray steadfastly, and bestow in alms of that which we have given them. Such are the true believers. They shall be exalted and forgiven by their Lord, and a generous provision shall be made for them. (Holy Qur'an) - 82 -
