________________ 38 16 The Anthology It is God who has raised the heavens without any supports that you could see, and is established on the throne of His almightiness; and He has made the sun and the moon subservient to His laws, each running its course for a term. And it is He who has spread the earth wide and placed upon it firm mountains and running waters, and created thereon two sexes of every kind of plant; and He who causes the night to cover the day. Verily, in all this there are messages indeed for people who think. And there are on earth tracts of land close by one another, with vineyards, and fields of grain, and date palms growing in clusters from one room or standing alone all watered with the same water; and yet, some of them have We favoured above others by way of the food which they provide. Verily, in all this there are messages indeed for people who use their reason. (The Holy Qur'an) How all-encompassing are the wonders of His boundless grace! Behold how they have pervaded the whole of creation. Such is their virtue that not a single atom in the entire universe can be found that does not declare the evidence of His might, which doth not glorify His holy Name, or is not expressive of the effulgent light of His unity. So perfect and comprehensive is His creation that no mind nor heart, however keen or pure, can ever grasp the nature of the most insignificant of His creatures; much less fathom the mystery of Him Who is the Day Star of Truth, Who is the invisible and unknowable Essence. (Gleanings from the Writings of Baha'u'llah) The whole universe is ever in his power. He is pure consciousness, the creator of time: all-powerful, all-knowing. It is under his rule that the work of creation revolves in its evolution, and we have earth, and water, and ether, and fire and air. His being is the source of all being, the seed of all things that in this life have their life. He is beyond time and space, and yet he is the God of infinite forms who dwells in our inmost thoughts, and who is seen by those who love him. May God who is hidden in nature, even as the silkworm is hidden in the web of silk he made, lead us to unison with his own Spirit. (Svetasvatara Upanishad) As our body is born, plants are born, as we grow so plants grow, as we have reason [mind] so plants have reason, as our body is damaged when cut so a plant is damaged when cut; as we need food so plants need food, as we are mortal so plants are mortal, as we have ups and downs plants have ups and downs. As we have some irregularities [in our life] so plants have some irregularities. You are master of the earth, O human Responsible for all life-forms. - 85 (Acharanga Sutra) (Adi Granth)Page Navigation
