तीन गुण
तीन अवगुण 1. विनीत

कर करने वाला 2. व्यक्त-पर्व सत्रद्रिक में भाव व्यक्त अर्थात गणों से व्यक्त का वर्णन "पात्र" शब्द से किया गया है और से बाद के सूत्रद्विक में द्रव्य से व्यक्त अर्थात् शरीर से व्यक्त का कथन किया गया है।
कांख, मूंछ आदि के बालों की उत्पत्ति होने पर व्यक्त कहा जाता है और उसके पूर्व अव्यक्त कहा जाता है। __ अथवा 16 वर्ष की उम्र तक अव्यक्त कहा जाता है उसके बाद व्यक्त कहा जाता है। '
ऐसे अव्यक्त भिक्षु को कालिकश्रुत (अंगसूत्र तथा छेदसूत्र) की वाचना नहीं दी जाती है।
इसका कारण स्पष्ट करते हुए भाष्य में बताया है कि अल्प वय में पूर्ण रूप से श्रुत ग्रहण करने की एवं धारण करने की शक्ति अल्प होती है तथा भाष्यकार ने कच्चे घड़े को अग्नि में रखा जाता है और पकाया जाता है किन्तु उसमें पानी नहीं डाला जाता है, उसी प्रकार प्रकार अल्पवय वाले शिष्य को शिक्षा अध्ययन आदि से परिपक्व बनाया जाता है किन्तु उक्त आगमों की वाचना व्यक्त एवं पात्र होने पर दी जाती है।
इस प्रकार सूत्र 16 से 21 तक दो-दो सूत्रों में तीन विषय क्रम से कहे गए हैं-सूत्र आदि की क्रम से ही वाचना देना, वह भी विनय गुण आदि से योग्य को ही देना, योग्य में भी वय प्राप्त को ही वाचना देना। इन विधानों से विपरीत आचरण करने पर प्रायश्चित्त आता है।
Comments—Even in these expressed four sutras through two words namely “Patra” and "Vyakt" two types of ability have been narrated.
1. Patra-One who has acquired the absolute competency of getting the “lesson"It means one who is endowed with the qualities of getting "Vachana" is called competent ___ "Patra" . But one who is not endowed with the qualities of getting the “Vachana" is called "Apatra" (Incompetent)...
In the fourth chapter of Brihat Kalpsutra it has been stated that the "Vachana" should be given to the person who is endowed with three virtures and giving Vachana is prohibited who has three vices. Three Virtues
Three Vices 1. Submissive
1. Ilmannered 2. The denouncer of nourishments 2. Consumer of nourishment 3. Immidiately subsides the struggles 3. Not subsides the struggles.
2. Vyakt-In first two sutras "The Bhava Vyakt” or the “Vyakt of virtues” has been narrated through the term "Patra” and in the last two Sutras “Dravya Vyakt" means Vyakt of physical appearance" is narrated.
One whose moustache and armpit hair are grown has been termed as "Vyakt” and prior to he has been an “Avyakt". It means one who is below the age of 16 years is called रे "Avyakt and above sixteen is called “Vyakt".
