________________ Soul Science : Samayasara by Jain Acarya Kundakunda the water is not blue. Even the bottom of the lake may not be blue. Physicists do not ask about the owner of the blue color of the lake. They are interested in knowing and exploring the reason of its blue appearance. They simply ask and answer, Why does the water of the lake appear blue?' Just as the acceptance of the two facts - (i) lake appearing as blue, and (ii) the water in the lake is not blue - may go together; in the same way the acceptance of the two facts: (i) the existence of thoughts of liking and disliking in a living being, and (ii) the thoughts of liking and disliking are not of the soul, may go together. In short, in a worldly living being, colors of attachment and aversion appear with the living being, but in reality the soul is free from any color of attachment or aversion. Diagram 3: Water of the lake appears blue but in reality the water taken out from the lake in a glass cup reveals that it is not blue (see the inset). Scientists know that the blue color of the lake is not possible without water, but they also know that the water is not blue. In the same way, in a worldly living being, colors of attachment and aversion appear with living beings, but in reality the soul is not colored by attachment or aversion.
