Due to nescience and infatuation, I have been: misleading myself with false notions that this body is mine, I am the son, he is my father, she is my mother, this is my palace, these are my belongings etc; but truth, has unravelled reality. This penance is called 'Keshalocha'. This is in consonance with the sacred vow of Ahimsa and dependence on one's own self. The ascetic is not required to beg for money for shaving If he keeps long hair, small insects will be born and they will be killed inadvertently, when they will move about the head and thus they will disturb the concentration of mind and cause distraction. He had resolved to control his mind, body and speech. He had taken a vow of complete silence, till the acquisition of omniscience, for in fact silence is the element in which great things fashion themselves.
