The Pattával of the Tapâgachha enumerates the same old teachers from Mahavira to Uddyotana, the 38th sûri of the Kharataragachha, but with some differences. Firstly Mahâvira is not included, तीर्थकृतो ह्याचार्यपरिपाटषा उत्पत्तिहेतवो भवन्ति । न पुनस्तदन्तर्गताः ॥ 1. Sudharman, the first âchârya of the first udaya. 2. Jambû. On him the following verses are quoted : सत्कृते जम्बुना व्यक्ता नवोढा नव कन्यिकाः । सन्मन्ये मुक्तिवध्वान्यो न वृतो भारतो नरः ॥ १ विनीत नताधिकार चित्तं न नीतं चतुरैश्च चौरैः । यहगेहे द्वितयं निशीथे जम्बूकुमाराय नमोऽस्तु तस्मै ॥ २ मण १ परमोहि २ पुलाए ३ आहारग ४ खवंग ५ उवसमे ६ कप्पे ७ । संजमतिग ८ केवल ९ सि झणा व १० जंतुंमि वुच्छिन्ना ॥ १ 3. Prabhava. 4. Sayyambhava. On him the followving Blokas are quoted* : कृतं विकालवेलायां दशाध्ययनगर्भितं । दशवैकालिकमिति नाम्ना शास्त्रं बभूव तत् ॥ १ अतः परं भविष्यन्ति प्राणिनो ह्यल्पमेधसः । कृतार्थास्ते मनकवद्भवन्तु त्वत्प्रसादतः || २ श्रुताम्भोजस्य किञ्जल्कं दशवैकालिकं यदः | आचम्याचम्य मोदन्तामनगारमधुव्रताः ॥ ३ इति संघोपरोधेन श्रीशय्यंभवसूरिभिः । दशवेकालिकमन्थो न संवत्रे महात्मभिः || ४ Yasobhadra. 5. 6. Sambhûtavijaya (sic) and Bhadr abà hu, उभावपि षष्ठपट्टधरी ॥ 7. Sthalabhadra. Here we find the following dates, differing a little from those of the Kharatara-Pattávali: He lived 30 years in griha, 24 in vrata, and 45 as yugapradhána, and died at 99 in 215 V. But the dates of | the Kharatara-Paṭṭávali are also mentioned. 8. Arya-Mahagiri and Arya-Su hastin, gurubhrátarau: the former lived 30 years in griha, 40 in_vrata, 30 as yugapradhāna, in all 100 years, the latter, 30 years in griha, 24 in 34 [From Hemachandra's Parisishtap. V, v. 86, 103–5. 35 In the same year the 9th Nanda was killed by Chandragupta. 38 V, 27. 28. Prof. Jacobi, Z. D. M. G. XXXIV, p. 252, quotes the verses, read Bahulassa sarivvayam (eadrigva. yasari) in v. 27, and cha vanidimo in v. 28. vrata, 46 as yugao, in all 100 years, and died in 291 V. The composer of the Pattávali draws attention to the improbability of this state ment: यद्यपि श्रीलस्य २१५ वर्षे स्वगुर्यावन्यनुसा रेणोक्तः श्रीमहागिरिसुहस्तिनी तु त्रिंशद्वर्षगृहस्थपर्यायापवनपुष्यमासंपतोषयन्त्रकानुसारेणोकी तथा च सति श्री आर्यसुहस्ती श्रीस्थूलभद्रदीक्षितो न संपतथापि गृहस्थपर्यायवर्षाणि न्यूनानि वा धिकानीति विभाव्य घटनीयं । कचिज्जीर्णपहावल्यां सपाहशतद्वये २२५ श्रीस्थूलभद्रस्य स्वर्ग उक्तो दृश्यते । तथा च न किंचिदनुपपन्नं ॥ 9. Susthita and Supratibaddha (sic), pupils of Suhastin, surnamed Kotika and Kâkandika. From that time the name of the Nirgrant has was changed to that of the Kotikagachha. श्रीसुधर्मस्वामिनो ऽष्टौ सूरीन्यावनिर्मन्थाः साधवो नगारा इत्यादिसामान्यार्थाभिधायिन्याख्यासीत् । नयमे च पट्टे कोटिका इति विशेषार्थावबोधकं द्वितीयं नाम प्रादुर्भूत || The MSS. mention, that in the Sthaviravali of the Nandi- and Avasyakasútra the twin-brothers Bahula and Balissah a are specified as pupils of Mahagiri, Svati, author of the Tattvartha and other granthas, as pupil of Balissaha, Syamarya, author of the Prajñāpand, died 376, according to others 386 V., as pupil of Sváti; Sandilya (Nic), author of the Jitamaryada, as pupil of Syama rya. 10. Indradinna. 251 Kalakasûri, the uprooter of Gardabhilla, lived 453 V.; according to other MSS. the same Kalaka also transferred the Paryushanaparvan, and as authorities for this fact are mentioned the Sthanakavritti, Dharmopadesamálávritti, Pushpamálávṛitti, samasta-Kálakácháryakatha and Prabhāvakacharitra.58 Arya-Khaputa lived at the same time, 453 V., according to a Jirna-Pattávali, but besides it is said, that the Prabhavakacharitra" gives the date as 484V. In 467 V. lived Arya - Maign, Vriddhavâdin and Pâdalipta, at the same time Siddhasenadivâkara, author of the Kalyánamandirastara and converter of Vik ra maditya (470 V.) Here follow the three 37 Cf.
