As one advances in spiritual aspiration, the superhuman potential of the soul becomes manifested in the form of 'eight powers' - like those of 'contraction', 'weight-loss', 'wish-fulfilment', etc. Superlative material objects like wonder-medicines and magic ointments, knowledge of alchemy and powerful chants come under one's' control.
But to a true ascetic, who is truly detached and is therefore, truly happy, not only these supernatural powers and possessions but also the craving for the state of self-absorption and meditation, becomes as contemptible as poison.
